New this year is the start date of our Summer Reading Challenge. After tons of feedback we decided to start our program right when school is out. So you can bring your child(s) in to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge as early as May 18th. You will receive a packet full of information that will have your child(s) excited and encouraged to READ & HAVE FUN this summer at our many events planned. The Summer Reading Challenge will run until July 21st.
The Summer Reading Challenge is a reading incentive program that we have put together to prevent the ‘summer slide’ in reading retention for children throughout the summer. For this challenge children are encouraged to keep track of their time for ages Preschool thru 5th grade and then for each hour they complete they will write their name on a block. Once a week, your child will report their time and we will trim off their blocks read and add them on our reading wall. Time is also counted when parents, siblings, etc. are reading to the child. For ages 6th thru 12th, they will be challenged to read a certain number of books and complete a BINGO sheet with various activities. Each block represents one hour and is one entry into the weekly prize drawing. Then after each week those winners or not will be dumped into our bigger jar to be drawn at the end of our program for some awesome prizes. For the 6th thru 12th grade; each week they report a book read they will be entered into the weekly drawings and then later added to the end of summer drawing.
Our community has been extremely generous with donations for our prizes. And we have added EVEN MORE EXCITING incentive prizes. You won’t want your child to miss the many things we have going on at your local library.
